Search the net without a browser!

Oh no, I am not talking about searching with emails.

Google has come up with a new product called Google Deskbar (beta), a cool tool to search the Internet & browse without a browser, in Windows. Pretty intuitive, this cute little product has just what you need to do a quick search.

Sitting in the windows taskbar, it can do all you try to do with google, from searching for images to reading news. You have forward, back and close buttons - exactly all that you really need to browse.

It would be a good idea to add a menu item pointing to the favorites. If thats added, I might seldom use a browser after all!

By the way google, is this a hint to Microsoft that you can live even without a browser?

And Now, Search inside the Books too!

You might be aware that Amazon has recently come up with an innovative idea of searching inside the books. A forward sure-fire step in the travel towards the technological future, this, in my view would be a grand success. If you are techno-savvy, then you probably would not even want a reason for this opinion.

Just think about this. You can now search for the occurance of a word in any available (well, many atleast) book in the world that has been converted to electronic format. And Amazon shows the sentence / paragraph of the occurance, which helps you to reason the context too. For the proponents of the good-old indexing in the books, how many can you search instantly?

Thats amazing, Amazon! Google would envy you for this, I am sure.

Trains go on-line in India

Undeniably, India has an extensive railway system which is probably the biggest in the world. Business Standard reports that the railway system is going to go online!

The report does not mention the specifics of the offering, but does clarify that the 64,000 km long and snaky railroad will be optically wired in entirety by 2008.

Sounds just great, doesn’t it? That’s the way to go!
