Is there a chance for Shashi Tharoor?

India is nominating Shashi Tharoor for the UN Seceraty General post. A good choice, I am sure.

I like his writings and incidentally after reading many of his articles in The Hindu, I came to know about his background and his International repute.

While I do not really agree with all his view’s I certainly think that he is a thinker and especially his clarity and acute observations are noteworthy.

Lets wait and see if he gets selected for the UN Chief post. Looks slightly difficult given the clout of China in UN and the vengence and cunning political moves of Pakistan .

A possible Nobel for Vajpayee?

I am sure the Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee deserves a Nobel for the peace initiatives he has taken towards Pakistan in the kashmir and other issues. Vajpayee is one of the best PMs India has ever had.

Columnist Jim Hoagland of Washington Post argues that Vajpayee and Musharaff are potential candidates for Nobel peace price.

Good luck to Mr. Vajpayee.

Remember Mahakavi Bharathi

A couple of years ago, on this day, about 3000 people were killed. Mercilessly. Let the killers suffer in their life.

And 82 years ago, this day - September 11, the great poet Mahakavi Subramanya Bharathi died. Let us remember the soul and the greatness of his works for a moment.

Lyngdoh gets Magsaysay

Its an honor for the present election commissioner of India, James Lyngdoh, to be among the recipients of the prestigious Magsaysay award this year, for his tough stand in conducting the Gujarat and Jammu & Kashmir elections. He suggests bureaucrats to be away from the politicians for the danger of becoming cancerous if too much exposed to them.

I think T N Seshan and Kiran Bedi have also received the awards before. And Magsaysay is generally referred to as the Nobel price of Asia.
